| 2008 Scout Outdoor Show Events / Competitions |
The 2008 Scout Outdoor Show will provide many opportunities for Scouts, families
and the general public to learn more about scouting activities and most important,
have fun. The 2008 Scout Show Committee has several events planned to enhance the
activities with this years theme of "The Great Outdoors". Several vendor booths will
also be on site providing information and services to complement Scouting and outdoor
recreational activities. |
Demonstrations / Non-competitive Events Include: |
| FOOD AND BEVERAGE CONCESSION STANDS - Road Kill Cafe by the Order of the Arrow
Fresh Smoked Bar-B-Q |
| NON-SCOUTING VENDOR BOOTHS - Local vendors of complementry businesses / services like
hiking and camping outfitters,kayaking and canoeing,bicycling,skateboarding,etc. |
| LIVE MUSIC BY SCOUTS - Scout troops who have active members in a musical group will be
provided a stage and an opportunity to perform live |
| SARASOTA REDS BASEBALL PLAYERS - Professional baseball players will be available to sign
autographs and give a clinic on baseball skills |
| SARASOTA COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPT.- Sarasota County Sheriff's Department will be on site
displaying their S.W.A.T. Team,canine units and more |
| CAPTAIN JONNIE WALKER - Local charter fisherman extraordinaire Captain Jonnie Walker will be '
on hand to teach a seminar on saltwater fishing and casting. |
| MANGROVE COAST FLY FISHERS - Learn how to tie "flies" and fly fishing casting with a group of
dedicated fly fishers from the Mangrove Coast Fly Fishers Club. |
Scout competitive Events Include |
| GATEWAY BUILDING COMPETITION (TROOPS / CREWS) - All Troops and venture Crews are
encourage to compete in the gateway building Competition.The theme for this year's Scout Show is
"The Great Outdoors". |
| CAMP GADGET COMPETITIIN : (WEBLOS/SCOUT/CREWS) - Patrol method competition for best
design and construction, using the appropriate lashings and Scouting techniques of a Camp gadget.
These projects may be built in advance of the Scout Show. |
| ORIENTEERING SKILLS COMPETITION : (sCOUTS/VENTURES) - Test your compass skills in
this orienteering competition. The course will include wooded, possibly wet, and opend areas.
This is an individual compass only course. This will be a timed event where you will need to find a specific number of items as quickly as possible |
| BEST DUTCH OVEN DESERT: (SCOUTS/VENTURERS) - Dig out Grandma's best dessert recipe
and cool it up in a dutch oven. The sweeter the better. |
| ADULT IRON CHEF CONTEST: (ADULTS/VENTURERS) - This is an on-site preparation of three
different dishes. you can enter one two or all three deshes. The three categories are : Main dish , Side Dish, and desert |
| CROSS COUNTRY RUN : (WEBLOS/SCOUTS/VENTURERS, PUBLIC) - This is an insividual
competition that is open to all youth.There will be three hearts, one for the Weblos, Scouts and
Venturers, Registration will be accepted in advance and on the day of event. |
| TUG-OF-WAR CONTEST: (WEBLOS/SCOUTS/VENTURERS,PUBLIC) - Just like the good ole
days,the classic tug-of-war.Team size will be determined maximum combined weights of all team
participants.Bragging rights will go to one team from each group only. |
| PATROL FLAG COMPETITION: (WEBLOS DENS / SCOUT PATROLS) - Design and construct an
authentic patrol flag using skill and precision,color and variety of materials. Rules and suggestions to
follow. |
| PACT / TROOP / CREW BOOTHS: Booths should incorporate this year's theme of "The Great
Outdoors". The booths should also be fun and educational. Units are encouraged to develop booths
that will cub and scout advancement opportunities,i.e.belt loops/activity pins/merit badge if your unit chooses to teach a merit badge class,please provide blue cards and a merit badge counselor. |
